Using Social Media to secure your future.

Recently we attended the Affili@Sydney conference, to talk with a bunch of other high flyers about what the future holds for our industry, and to pick up the tricks that are going to make us winners in a game that’s growing all the time.
There were a lot of nice things to find out at the conference. Probably the best one was that even though we’re impatient, there are a significant number of people making a nice living doing pretty much what we do, and they’ve got there using pretty much the techniques we’re using. The rule seems to be that it’s topugher now than it was in the past, but we’re on track to get there and the we’re not doing it harder than most of our colleagues.
It also seems to be true that technologies come in waves. Things that are steady, viable businesses now were extraordinary engines of success ten years ago, and as they become accepted they normalise. What we are eager to do is understand the next wave and get aboard it in plenty of time. In Australia, we appear to be ahead of the Tsunami that is social media. There are pronouncements all over the internet that Facebook is now bigger than Google, and that the way people find product is going to change forever. We’ve heard that message and picked up a few tricks we’re deploying in the business. If it takes us to the head of the pack for some of our sites that are already working, you’ll stop hearing us talk about the struggle to get to being completely viable.
Meanwhile there are other things about Social Media that are vital. One is simply that all sorts of “bricks and mortar” business are seeing the importance of it, and they don’t know how to use it. The niche of Social Media Manager has formed. We’re running a bunch of social media accounts for our own purposes and we’ll check back in with you on how this is working, but we’ve found an opportunity to get involved at another level. Especially if you’re just starting out, this seems pretty cool to us.
Social Media whiz, Kate Buck, has fired up a brand where she’s going to teach and support people to be Social Media Managers. The market for this is massive right now, and sooner or later much of it will be managed in house, but for those who move swiftly and sensitively, there’s a fairly handsome living to be made.

We recommend you have a look at Let’s Get Social. It’s a chance for a lot of people to get in ahead of the wave, and to stake out a sustainable living in an area that’s growing and might well be tomorrow’s boom industry. You can start out with little money and you should see a healthy income stream come from it. It won’t be for everyone, but for some it’lll be the start of a great new life.

Interesting article, but re: "we appear to be ahead of the Tsunami that is social media" -- are you sure about that? In the USA, I sense a degree of social media fatigue already. Perhaps social media has already peaked and the something totally different is waiting in the wings? I've recently heard multiple people say things to the effect of, "How many places can a person continually update their status on?" and I know exactly what they mean. The social media sites of today all seem to have a "Me too" approach that duplicates features. Twitter came on the scene with short status updates about what we were doing and now the feature is copied on Facebook, MySpace, Google Buzz, Xanga Pulse, AOL Lifestream and countless others. Plus, it gets to be overload when a person tries to participate in too many of these. I have a suspicion something totally difference may capture the public's fancy in the future. This truly new thing is the wave we should all be looking out for.
