Web surfers are a fickle bunch. If they don't get what they want immediately, they often click away to another site. You need to make sure your site is easy to negotiate and that all the important information is easy to find straight away.





  • To be safe, what you should really be aiming for is a website that a first time user could navigate freely. People who write websites (whether it's you or someone else) are experienced computer users and net surfers. Therefore they write sites according to their experience, often forgetting that others are still learning. To help you design an easy-to-navigate site, ask someone you know who has minimal computer experience to visit your site and provide an honest opinion.

  • Make sure that if your site contains multiple pages, there is some sort of navigation bar or other way the viewer can tell where they are and can return to other parts of the website without having to click the "Back" button on their browser.
  • Take a look at other successful web sites. How do you navigate around their sites? What ideas can you use
