ADVERTISE IN ANY TOWN OR STATE YOU WANT

Google's Pay Per Click system (Adwords) in Australia now provides the ability to target specific states or even towns.

Adwords has always allowed you to target specific countries (eg. make my ads appear only in Australia and the UK). And for a long time in the USA you have been able to target specific states and towns.

But this has now been extended to Australia, so that people can specify that their ads only appear to searchers located in a specific state (eg. Western Australia), or even a specific town.

This is really valuable for businesses who only service a particular area. For example, if you have a business that only supplies to Brisbane, you can specify that your ads only appear when someone located in Brisbane searches for your product. Likewise, if you only service the states of Western Australia and Victoria, you can make sure your ads only appear to searchers within those states. And so on.

The great advantage of this is that your ads don't appear to people you can't service, thereby reducing the amount of wasted ads and clicks.

This feature of Google's system further increases the already great control you have over Pay Per Click advertising, where you can control where you want your ads to appear, what keywords they will appear on, what position you want your ads to appear, how much you want to spend, and so on.

THIS FORTNIGHT'S QUESTION

This fortnight's question comes Laura:

"How do I know how many people are visiting my website?"

Your website hosting company should be providing you with statistics that you can view (if not, check out our hosting at www.southwestecommerce.net - statistics are standard).

Not only should these statistics tell you how many people are visiting, but also other really valuable information such as where they came from (ie. which websites, which search engines), what search terms they typed into the search engine when they found you, which pages of your site are the most popular, and lots more.

You should check your websites regularly so you can keep up with the public's response to your site.

Got a question? Send it to us at admin@southwestecommerce.com and we'll do our best to answer it, as well as publish one every fortnight for everyone to see.
