THIS FORTNIGHT'S QUESTION

This fortnight's question comes from Mark:

"Can we transfer .com domains to your system or only .com.au domains?"

You can transfer any domain extensions to our system, but it is only the .com.au domains that can be done without having to renew them.

That is, .com.au domains can be transferred to our system for no charge, and then you will simply receive future invoices from us at our rate of $88 per two years.

Other domains, including .com, must be renewed when they are transferred (this is the registrar's requirements, not ours). So if for example you transfer a .com domain to us, you need to pay for a renewal ($22) at the same time. This means that your domain name will be extended for a further year after it's current expiry date.

Got a question? Send it to us at admin@southwestecommerce.com and we'll do our best to answer it, as well as publish one every fortnight for everyone to see.

OVERTURE CHANGING IT'S NAME TO YAHOO

In the confusing world of who owns who in the search engine industry, Overture is changing it's name to Yahoo.

Yahoo is one of the big three search engines (the other two are Google and MSN). Yahoo owns Overture, Altavista, All The Web, and a few others. But it is Overture that provides the top 3 results in the Yahoo group through it's Pay Per Click system. So often Overture is seen as the parent company when in fact it is Yahoo.

We don't know if this is one of the reasons behind the change, but it will now mean that the engine that provides the main results in that group will be uniformly called Yahoo.

This change will not have an effect on your Overture account.

CURRENCY CONVERTER

If you're after a good currency converter, one of the most popular ones on the Internet is www.xe.com/ucc/.

On that page you will also find links on how to incorporate their converter into your website, or to put it straight onto your desktop.
