Australian Affiliate Conference - Affili@Syd

For the second year, the only affiliate conference in Australia will be held on 8 June in Sydney.

Last year’s inaugural event saw a capacity audience of 200 enjoy a star-studded line up of international speakers and this year promises to be even bigger.

If you are interested in affiliate marketing, then by attending this conference you will not only be able to listen to key speakers such as "super affiliate" Zac Johnson from the US, as well as the return of last year’s social media dynamo Lee Hopkins and the Power Affiliate Panel, but you'll also be able to mingle with other Australian affiliate marketers, ranging from newbies right through to people who genuinely earn 100% of their income from affiliate marketing.

Ranking A .com SubDomain

There are certain domains you can purchase that are actually subdomains of another .com domain. Popular examples include:

.uk.com
.uk.com
.gb.com

For example, you can register the domain www.mybusiness.uk.com. But seeing as though that is actually a subdomain of .uk.com, does it make it any harder to rank?

Well, we recently tried it, and found that ranking was extremely difficult. In fact, after 4 months of intense link building for a low competition keyword, we've got nowhere. This result seems to line up with other tests, and conclusions drawn by people such as "Just Roger IT" in the UK, as you can see in his blog post at http://manchester-seo-blog.co.uk/gb-com-domains-face-extreme-penalty-in-google/. Here the author has come up with similar results to us, and recommends steering away from .com subdomains.

The reasons for this are varied, but can often be because of negative factors coming from the main domain, or other subdomains under the same domain extension. Google in particular treat these domains as subdomains, and not domains in their own right.

If you've already got a .com subdomain, and find that it isn't ranking well, all is not lost. By doing a 301 redirect, you may be able to copy over a fair bit of your "link juice" and start ranking on a new domain fairly quickly. We're going to try it with our domain, and let you know how it goes.
