5 WAYS TO PROMOTE YOUR WEBSITE
There are in fact hundreds of ways to promote your website, but here are 5 of the best:
- Search engines - there's no getting away from it. Over 1 billion searches are conducted on the Internet every day worldwide, so this still continues to be the most common way people find a website. And anyone can have their website on the first page of results. Although it is becoming increasingly difficult (or some would say impossible) to get your site ranking on the first page of free results for many keywords, all search engines now provide a way for small businesses to be on the first page instantly, through Pay Per Click advertising. It is very cost effective, and you can find out more at www.southwestecommerce.com/ppc.htm.
- Offline advertising - it's amazing how many businesses out there have a really good website, but simply don't promote it anywhere. We regularly see businesses pay for TV advertising, newspaper ads, etc, and for some reason they don't list their website address. You should be noting your web address everywhere, including business cards, letterheads, answering machine messages, newspaper advertisements, store signage, car advertising, and more. Get the address out there as much as possible, and it's more likely people will remember it
- Affiliate program - offer an incentive for others to advertise your site, through affiliate advertising. The way this works is that you offer a program where you pay people a commission if they refer a customer to you. This is a win-win situation, because the affiliate does the advertising for you, and you only pay when you make a sale. There are sophisticated affiliate tracking systems available through websites such as www.commissionmonster.com.au and www.clixgalore.com.au.
- Build incoming links - A major source of website traffic is links from other sites. Search out other complimentary websites and ask if you can swap links with them. Not only will this bring in more traffic in its own right, but the more links you have, the higher your search engine ranking will be
- Start an email newsletter - create a sign-up page on your website, and start to send out a regular newsletter with good content and other information in it. Include links to your website wherever possible. When you are regularly reminding people of your business, and your website, you'll notice an increase in your website traffic
