THE COST EFFECTIVENESS OF PAID LISTINGS
Almost all of the major search engines now provide paid listings on the first page of their results. This provides a way for business owners to place their website on the first page of results immediately, and access some of the billions of searches conducted on the Internet everyday.
But what some people don't realise is just how effective these paid listings can be.
Imagine deciding to spend $200 a month on advertising your business. You could spend that $200 on a newspaper advertisement. How much traffic to your website would the newspaper attract? Obviously that depends on a lot of factors, but have a guess anyway.
Now if you spent that $200 on paid search listings, and you paid $0.20 per click (rate varies depending on the competition for your keywords), that would give you 1000 visitors ($200 divided by $0.20 per visitor). And not just 1000 random visitors, but 1000 visitors who had searched for your product or service. That's a pretty good return for your $200. Sometimes you can get away with a lower price per click, if your keywords are not as competitive, or sometimes unfortunately you may need to pay higher.
Now we're not saying you should drop your offline advertising. Far from it. Newspaper, TV, and radio advertising all play an important part in attracting new customers to your business. But the cost effectiveness of Pay Per Click search engine advertising demands that it should be considered as a genuine part of your advertising budget mix.
