SURVEY FOLLOW UP
A big thankyou goes to everyone who completed our recent survey about websites.
One thing we didn't realise would happen is that in the final question, where there was a box to provide general comments about websites, many people put in questions. But, because it was an anonymous survey, we didn't know who you were to get back to you!
So, here's a quick run down of some of the questions we received, and a very brief answer to each:
- How much does it cost to design a website?
This really does depend on what you need, as the amount of time required varies significantly depending on whether you need a basic "online brochure" kind of site, or something a bit more complicated (eg. shopping cart). To find out for sure, simply complete our website quote form.
- What are the ongoing costs of having a website?
Good question. The main ones are website hosting (normally around $20 per month) and your domain name (normally around $60 for two years for a .com.au name). Apart from that, the only other major cost is updates, which if you can't do yourself you'll need to either pay a designer to do, or pay for some kind of self editing system (often called Content Management System).
- How much will it cost with an online shopping cart facility?
Again, this will vary depending on what you need. What we can say is that shopping carts can be expensive and can increase the cost of a site significantly. Again, don't forget to complete our website quote form to get a detailed quote suited to your requirements.

THIS FORTNIGHT'S QUESTION
This fortnight's question comes Michelle:
"Can I get a domain name and my own emails @mydomainname.com.au, without having to get a website? "
Absolutely. This can either be done through setting up forwarding emails on the domains server, or real POP3 email addresses through a hosting account. This will allow you to have emails@yourdomainname.com.au, without necessarily having a website.

YAHOO CLAWS BACK SOME MARKET SHARE
A recent survey by NetApplications.com showed the following market share for the major search engines:
Google - 52%
Yahoo - 11%
Google UK - 9%
MSN - 5%
Others - 23%
This is a small gain by Yahoo, but is part of a continuing trend of other search engines slowly gaining ground on the giant Google. Something to remember when advertising in the major search engines - not everyone uses Google.
